Slow and Steady Still Gets a Participation Award!

Day 68: Run 23

I had a meeting yesterday at 7:30am so I tried to get up at 5:00am to go running and it just didn't work. It was dark and scary outside. I will get used to the dark, but I don't like creepy feelings and tend to listen to them and rely on them heavily so I got back in bed and went to sleep.

I made up for it today! Oh and I took a long walk Saturday and will go running again tomorrow!

Today was good, I am getting stronger and am earning my endurance little by little. Sometimes it is hard to push yourself. I am a little disappointed because I can't run a marathon right now. I understand that ideal is very unrealistic right now, but I would love to do that someday and I hate not being able to do what I want!

I wish this was going faster, I have to constantly remind myself that I did not gain all this weight at once and therefore cannot lose it all at once. Oh and just to let all of you know I am not interested in HCG. I am happy for you if it worked for you, but it is not for me.

  • Motivation:  I didn't go yesterday and I really want to be under 200 this Friday!

  • Listening to:  Katy Perry, Lady Gaga... I need some new music

  • Thankful for: Having my music back!!

STATS ( The route is that same. It just looks like a greater distance because I had to back track once or twice to wait for traffic and didn't want to stop!):
Duration- 0:32:11
Distance- 1.95 miles
Average Speed- 3.64 mph
Average Pace- 16:30 min/mile

Negativity and Some Curse Words Alert!

Day 64: Run 22
WEIGH DAY 8: 202.2 I gained everything I lost last week.

Which I don't understand! at 2,000 your body should maintain its weight right? Right! well I only ate over 2,000 calories one day last week. should I not have at least maintained my weight? How the hell did I gain weight? And it's not even like I went over 2,000 by that much that day. I mean I gorged myself but it's not like I went bat shit crazy!

Plus...

Today SUCKS! I'm exhausted, my back hurts, my knee hurts and the word run is a huge overstatement of what I did this morning. It was definitely terrible. My body just wouldn't move. I blame my self for listening to my father-in-law. He was a track star in high school and is still a great runner. He was talking to me about my gate so I decided today would be a good day to "Listen to my gate"

(Yeah the gate is the movement of your thigh connected to your knee and then to your shin, ankle and foot, combined with how your body touches or hits the ground. Tweaking your gate movements causes different sounds)

Well in order to listen I didn't take my music with me. That sucked, secondly I didn't even know how the hell I was supposed to be listening to hit because the sound I hear is my foot hitting the ground and it is definitely not the slapping noise I was supposed to hear and when I tweaked it, it just hurt my knee.

On top of that I couldn't get back across the street today and had to take a different route... LAME!!

Then there is just ten million little things that have happened throughout the day that just irked me even more, like dropping my keys, getting stuck behind a slow driver, the students not listening or giving me attitude... WHAT THE HELL! Just because I skipped a day of calorie counting I have to be punished 6 days late?!! ERRRRR

  • Motivation:  Weigh day
  • Listening to:  My gate!
  • Thankful for: Today being pretty much over!

  • STATS and Route:
    Duration- 0:34:51
    Distance- 2.00 miles
    Average Speed- 3.45 mph
    Average Pace- 17:23 min/mile
    Calories Burned- 225 kcal

Oh and the only reason I hit 2.00miles exactly is because when I got back to apartment it was 1.99 and so I decided to walk back and forth until it changed to 2.00!

    Perfect Pancakes!

Day 61: No workout, just food!

I found this awesome pancake recipe from Allrecipes.com because My husband and I didn't have enough Bisquick to make breakfast for dinner. I just needed something fast so I found this and turns out that each pancake is only 166 calories! Plus they are large pancakes! The recipes says 8 servings, but my husband made 5 and that's when I entered it into myfitnesspal.com's recipe thing and found out that at 5 servings each sering is only 166 calories!

Now, the recipe calls for 3 Tablespoons of butter, but I omitted this and they turned out fine hence the awesomeness and the low calorie count!

I am making it again tonight but am trying waffles with strawberries and whip cream!

    Good Old Fashioned Pancakes
    Ingredients
    • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1 tablespoon white sugar
    • 1 1/4 cups milk
    • 1 egg
    • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
    Directions
    1. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Make a well in the center and pour in the milk, egg and melted butter; mix until smooth.

    1. Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each pancake. Brown on both sides and serve hot.

My run this morning was great! I love running in the morning!

Tonight starts my 24 hours of not counting calories! I'm so excited! I will most likely make myself sick! 24 hours starts once that Denny's brownie hits my mouth!

    • Motivation: I simply love to run. It's like Kelsie time in the morning! It feels good and it makes me feel strong and healthy!

    • Listening to:  Journey and Breaking Benjamin and Modest Mouse

    • Thankful for: I keep passing this woman and her daughter as they get into their car to leave for the day. They are really nice people they wave and say hi! Today they were in their car before I got to their drive way, but still let me go first! She yelled out the window, "You're working harder than I am keep going!"

STATS and I'm too tired to get the route, it's the same as Wednesday's:
    Duration- 0:31:02

Another Run Down, Another Run Down, Another Run Bites the Dust!

    Day 55: Run 19

It was hard to get up this morning. I got up and it was another great run! I even found some trees in the park that were hanging low that happened to have been sprayed by the sprinklers! Yay for water on leaves! Of course I splashed my face, but I was wearing glasses! I guess the first time I did that I was wearing contacts. Therefore I couldn't see real good for a little bit, but I kept running! Woo hoo for more food to eat!

I know I have told you before why I am doing this, but here is a simplified list!

    1. I want to be a hot wife.
    2. I want to fit into a pair of Rock Revival jeans.
    3. I want to look good at graduation.
    4. I don't want to worry about whether or not that cute clothing item comes in my size.
    5. I don't want back rolls.
    6. I want to be healthy and strong.
    7. When the time comes I want to be a cute little pregnant woman with a healthy pregnancy. Being fit helps labor go much more smoothly and recovery is much quicker. (At least that's what I have been told)
I am sure there are more reasons, but these are the most important to me right now!

    • Motivation: (See above)

    • Listening to: Journey, Breaking Benjamin, ABBA, Alien Ant Farm and Alkaline Trio

    • Thankful for: Running more and walking less! I'm holding on to the promises from the Word of Wisdom, Run and not be weary, walk and not faint! (For those who don't know what that is, it is like a health code for Mormons. If you want more info as to what it all entails see below!)

    STATS and Route:
Duration- 0:29:59 (Lets just say 30!)
    Distance- 1.87 miles
    Average Speed- 3.74 mph
    Average Pace- 16:03 min/mile
    Calories Burned- 224 kcal

I have decided to make this my permanent route for at least the rest of this week and next week, if I need to add more I will! I have come to terms with the fact that I have to use the big crosswalk because there are too many cars on R st. in the morning. (Sorry to all the on their way to workers that I have to stop)

    The Word of Wisdom
For those of you who don't know I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints aka I'm LDS, aka I'm a Mormon!

The Mormon church is quite well known for having a "Strict" health code. I say strict in quotes because A. I have lived it my whole life and don't think it is hard and B. it's really not that hard, giving up an addiction is hard.

Mormons believe that our bodies are gifts from God and that we need to keep them healthy and strong. In order to do this God gave Joseph Smith a law of health which is often referred to as the Word of Wisdom. In this law God spoke against the use of coffee, tea, alcohol and illegal drugs.

Aside from believing in the Word of Wisdom, partaking of these drinks or substances have been scientifically shown to be detrimental to our health. Alcohol affects the liver and its ability to function along with our mental capability to control our own actions. As do other illegal drugs and substances. Tobacco affects our lungs capacity to do their job. It also causes lung cancer and discoloration of different parts of your body. Tea, coffee and some pops contain caffeine which if abused can be a very addicting substance. They can also stain your teeth which is gross!  There are many different reasons to avoid these things.

The entire Word of Wisdom is contained in Doctrine and Covenants 89. It was given as a principle to live, not a commandment, but it is a principle given with promise and "adapted to the capacity of the weak and the weakest of all saints, who are or can be called saints."(D&C 89:2)

Here are versus 18-21 which contain the promises:

    18 And all saints who remember to keep and do these sayings, walking in obedience to the commandments, shall receive health in their navel and marrow to their bones;
    19 And shall find wisdom and great treasures of knowledge, even hidden treasures;
20 And shall run and not be weary, and shall walk and not faint.
21 And I, the Lord, give unto them a promise, that the destroying angel shall pass by them, as the children of Israel, and not slay them. Amen.

    Birthday Run!

Today is Day 54: Run 18

Yesterday was my birthday! And my little sister being the thoughtful person that she is got me a new pair of exercise pants! I so needed a new pair! They are awesome! They even have a pocket in the back for me to put my phone in! Whenever you get a new something for your workout, the first time you use it ends up being an awesome workout! SO true! I also created a new play list!

I woke up angry for some reason and today was the same, just super low on patience but my run was good! Again due to traffic I had to use the crosswalk. Also I am thinking that my tracker doesn't accurately calculate the distance. I think I am going a little further than it says. Not much, just a little further.

I completed my Running Chart!! I have exercised 30 times! (Actually more, I just don't count some of them because either I had already exercised that day or they were very small like under 30 minutes and not very vigorous!)I am glad it worked out so that I could complete it on my birthday! I would love to go get something off of the list, but our budget is super tight this month so I will have to wait. I am thinking about saving it and adding it to the next 30 so I can double the spending limit or get 2 things off of it.

R= Run, W= Workout (like at a gym), Wa or WA= Walk, and H= Hike

    • Motivation: I have new pants and a new play list!

    • Listening to:  Journey, Breaking Benjamin, ABBA, Alien Ant Farm and Alkaline Trio... Great music to listen to if your angry BTW!

    • Thankful for: Every time I run I pass the house of Lisa Berry, a woman in my Relief Society. I always hope to see her, but never do... I saw her! I saw her on day 2 because she was having a garage sale, but today she was leaving for work! She stopped and said,"Wow you kept with it, great job! When I grow up can I be like you?!" it was awesome and I definitely needed that extra bit of encouragement!
I was really hoping to be a little under 200 come this Friday weigh day but I don't think it is going to happen because I have been over my calories the last couple of days... I will still lose, but I was just really hoping for that under 200 milestone!

    STATS and Route:
    Duration- 0:31:22
Distance- 1.79 miles (I went further)
    Average Speed- 3.43 mph
    Average Pace- 17:29 min/mile
    Calories Burned- 201 kcal

    Flexability in Life is Important

    Day 49: Run 18

I did not get up and go running yesterday :(  However I did go on a long walk with my best friend Stephanie, 2.43 miles. I did not add the stats here, but I didn't want you to think I was slacking. Also Monday is my official birth-date and it will also be the day that I complete my first running chart! woo hoo! Unfortunately I do not have the funds to actually get myself something off of the list, but I figured I can save up two charts and double the spending limit on everything and buy something really nice... or buy 2 things!! Flexibility in life is important!

On a not workout note.. I no longer work at the high school! I work in the Adaptive Behavior program at Lea Hill Elementary! Woo hoo! I love it!

    • Motivation: I want to be skinny!

    • Listening to: Ke$ha and Katy Perry... man I need some new stuff... Any suggestions on good upbeat music to run to?

    • Thankful for: My legs!

STATS and Route(Which I had to change due to traffic):
    Duration- 0:29:28
    Distance- 1.72 miles
    Average Speed- 3.56 mph
    Average Pace- 17:06 min/mile

    Same Stuff Different Day

    Day 47: Run 17

Today was my first official day back at work and it sucked. I definitely felt unwelcomed back at AMHS. (That is another reason I am going to teach kindergarten, because the majority of people who work at high schools are full of themselves. Not all just most.) I got up at 6am and I did the same route as yesterday, it took like a minute longer because I did not run as much as I did yesterday. Yesterday was like a super day! Hopefully tomorrow will be like unto it!

    • Motivation: I don't know, I obviously had to have some otherwise I wouldn't have gotten out of bed... maybe it was just the underlying thing about being healthy and strong!

    • Listening to: Ke$ha, Katy Perry and Lil Mama

    • Thankful for: I am thankful the gate to the park was open this morning! I am also thankful I was able to get up early enough to run!

    STATS and Route:
    Duration- 0:28:52
    Distance- 1.71 miles
    Average Speed- 3.56 mph
    Average Pace- 16:52 min/mile
    Calories Burned- 197 kcal

    Monday, September 3, 2012

    No, I can't run a 10 min. mile... yet

    Day 46: Run* 16

Get ready to hear about quick 30 minutes runs everyday because the school year is about to start and I will be running before work every morning! For those who don't know I work as a para-educator in an Adaptive Behavior program at a high school. I go to school in the evenings to finish my teaching degree. I will be doing my student teaching in march and will graduate June 9th!! I'm super excited about it! So work starts tomorrow and school starts in like 2 weeks ish... My birthday is in one week woo hoo!

    OK back to working out...
I ran more than I walked by far! It as awesome! I just kept going! I can't run the whole thing without stopping, but I think by the end of September I will be able to!! woot woot!

*Note: When I say run I mean Kelsie run which means more jogging than running. I want to run and run fast, but I am not built for speed. I have short legs and a big belly(that is slowly melting away!). Hopefully someday I will run fast!

    • Motivation: It's Labor Day! I want food tonight! YES I reward myself with food, No it does not make me a dog! I read a myfitnesspal.com post just a few minutes ago where some stupid, stuck up ignorant, was whining about people rewarding themselves with food. I will eat what I want, when I want.. just not as much as I want!

    • Listening to: Oasis, Pitbull, Nirvana

    • Thankful for: My endurance! It is getting better! I am thankful for the old man I passed.. twice. Our paths keep meeting, it was like I went running towards his house and he went running towards my house and we passed each other on the way there and back! I hate to say this, but I am also thankful for the colder air this morning.
    STATS and Route:
    Duration- 0:27:07
    Distance- 1.66 miles
    Average Speed- 3.68 mph
    Average Pace- 16:19 min/mile
    Calories Burned- 197 kcal

I am starting to notice some flaws with my tracker. The two red circles indicate locations of incorrect tracking. The lower one is missing a part where I paced back and forth waiting for a specific part in a song with a really good beat to run to. The upper one closer to park shows that I cross 33rd st before crossing R st. but I crossed R st. first and then continued to cross 33rd st. Hmmm I will have to keep an eye one this. Perhaps my phone wasn't receiving a good satellite signal.
